Like so many of you, we , the Bnai Amoona Klei Kodesh, are deeply distressed about the tragic death of Michael Brown and the anger and frustration of the black community in St. Louis. As Jews, we have a communal memory of what it means to be a minority; of what it feels like to not trust local officials. We are working on a broad and coordinated effort to make progress in our region regarding race relations, but in the meantime, we want to do something concrete and immediate. We understand that the local food pantry in Ferguson is running low and many residents feel unable to get out and go shopping. Therefore, we will be collecting food at Bnai Amoona this Shabbat to be brought to the Ferguson pantry as a token of our support and as a tangible expression of our prayer that peaceful progress will be made swiftly.
