Like the rest of the world, I mourn the loss of the genius, Robin - TopicsExpress

Like the rest of the world, I mourn the loss of the genius, Robin Williams. In listening to the various news programs, I gather that most people did not know he suffered greatly from depression/mental illness for most of his life. On the Today Show this morning, Dr. Nancy Schneiderman commented that as a society, we shun those with issues of the brain. We sweep it under the rug. Truth is, as a society, we dont understand it, or it makes us uncomfortable. The fact is my friends, most people would give a shoulder or a hand to someone with cancer, diabetes, tumors, etc., but not someone with mental health issues. If you are one of those individuals who shun, turn away, or otherwise ignore these people, I feel sorry for you. People, human beings, with issues involving the brain are loving, caring, LOVEABLE. They have dreams and wishes, and the need for compassion and understanding of whatever condition ails them. They do not deserve any less than what we offer to individuals who suffer from other maladies. You may not be aflicted, may not understand what a see saw their lives can be. Often you hear, toughen up, get a life, what the hell is wrong with you. Someone with issues learns to avoid close relationships, often keeping to themselves for fear of burdening you, or worse, being made to feel like they should/could/need to be better than they are. Should you ever have the great FORTUNE to know and love anyone that suffers, you are blessed. They are some of the strongest people you will ever know, for they often carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, EACH AND EVERY DAY. Someone like Robin Williams, really a genius in my book, had to know that for every HIGH HIGH, the opposite awaited them when they crashed. And crash they do. Its learning to pick themselves up, and dust themselves off that make them so strong. Lets not add to their burden by judging what we dont understand. They self medicate because their medications that help the conditons make them feel unworthy. God bless you Robin. And bless those of you that understand, or at least make the effort to understand. It is not catching, and we could all learn a thing or two about ourselves and our fellow man in this journey.
