Like the weather, it was windy, cloudy, severe, rough and ruthless. Painful for some, joyous for others; Some went bankrupt while others bank swollen. Some had wished it never happen. Howbeit, it was quite a process. The Senatorial Election has come and gone. It has been a historic election year. From the ruthless outbreak of the deadly ebola virus that forced the postponement of the election, to the imposition of a stay order by the Supreme Court, to the withdrawal of the ruling Unity Party candidate for Montserrado, to claims and counter claims of stone throwing and violent episodes and very poor voters turnout, one can safely say this process was no less than drama free. Particularly, media houses were amused by the availability of news every minute. Only lazy journalists will struggle to develop stories from their beats and elsewhere. Friends became enemies and rivals because of their support to a particular candidate. These are all tenants of electoral processes. All in all, there must be a winner in every competition and the ability of the loser(s) to concede defeat, cut their loss, congratulate the winner(s) and contribute to the country’s/county’s development is not a weakness but strength as a leader. As we built trust in our legal and electoral systems, we can safely say the future of our democracy is brighter. We join others to congratulate Amb. George Weah, Cllr. Varney Sherman, Sen. Taylor and all others for their election and hope that they will live up to the expectation of the Liberian people. In all we do, Liberia first! Liberia last!
