Lil Daves State Of Da Nation 2015 As we all sit here on 1 January contemplating our navels and mapping out the year ahead. It is important sometimes, (no matter how far along that personal journey you are to acheiving your desired goal) to sit back and reflect on the mistakes youve made, where you come from, how you got there, and more importantly the people who helped you along the way. We are quick to forget how we impact on each others lives either positively or negatively. A simple decision that either lifted you up a step or two or set you back three or four. I know clearly who all the people are that at some stage or other had a positive impact on my life, They remain nameless here, but Im sure they know who they are too and dont need reminding. They are people who I respect, and no matter how seldom or often I interact with them, we can just pick up like it was yesterday. I am grateful for those people! There are other nameless f**kers who deserve to feel nothing less than the Wrath of Cohen but then they most probably think the same of me!? Well, f**k em I say, Karma is a biaaatch!! The world has a way of catching up on shit!! However, Some other people have chosen to forget and are sorely missed, but thats their trajectory and hopefully they have found their happiness. Maybe Ill make another attempt to reach out to those during the coming year....? Or, maybe I wont....? This past week, My thoughts have been with a good friend Kevin Van Staaden A talented singer (ex Celtic Rumours, Communique) who was tragically snatched from us in a car crash on his way to a Boxing Day gig at the Carousel all those years ago.. The man who encouraged me to make the life changing decision to leave the hotel game and enter the wide world of Entertainment.. I wish he was still here to see what a wild roller coaster has been.. He would have loved the ride!! I, of all people know, that life can take a left turn when you least expect it, veering off the highway of life and on to a bumpy road. When life throws you rocks - get a 4x4, draw a bridge and get over it! I think that will be my new approach for 2015 and lets see where it takes me. Ill whip out my GPS and see what course it heads me in - Im Bored, Its time for another adventure.. or maybe Ill just choose to remain under the rock that Ive so comfortably crawled under!! I havent decided!? Ha Ha, I know Im an acquired tasted and certainly not to everyones flavour, but Ive always known that about me, so Im under no illusions of grandeur and Im comfortable in my own skin. I am as dedicated, opinionated and passionate about the things and people I believe in and care about, that is one constant that will never change! I still get bored in five minutes... Whatever happens in the future, its important to remain humble and remember where you started. You never know when your next left turn is about to leap out and proverbially kick you in the nuts!! There are many friends from my past, who are spread around the world, people who Id give anything to just sit around a dinner table with and catch up.. No amount of Social Media interaction makes up for face-to-face spontaneous laughter and shared We were there together memories. Dont miss out on the opportunity to connect with those people who mattered then, because they are the ones who likely helped shape the person you are today. You never know when theyll be gone.. If they were there for you once, they more than likely would be there for you again!! 2014 has been a year to forget!! Annus (with two nns) Horriblis as the Queen once said.. Hopefully we all will find the power to light the way that Eskom obviously wont provide for us!! Happy 2015 everyone,
