Lil Orcas Adventure Walk: Hi Cherri, Buffy Summers wasnt - TopicsExpress

Lil Orcas Adventure Walk: Hi Cherri, Buffy Summers wasnt available for her Holiday walk but Lil Orca was ecstatic to get out of her kennel and go in her place! I could see from her level of enthusiasm for the trails and the river that for her it was the best present ever!! Lil Orca is a 37 lb dynamo a little over two years of age who is a lot of fur covered fun and good bit of cuddle in the mix too. After taking a quick sniff of the car she jumped right in and began investigating all the smells in the wagon, she was very good about staying in the back and I could see her looking out all the windows as we drove to Reedy creek. Occasionally I would feel her sniffing the back of my neck and ear and she let me reach back and scratch her head which was good because I had thought she might be just a little shy when I first saw her. She began her hike at the trail head near Reedy creek and set off on the Buttermilk trail making for the Nickel bridge. She was nose down and full speed going from side to side sniffing at the trail and racing into the leaves then back down again. When I stopped and called to her she was easily encouraged to come back to me and despite her eagerness for the hike would hold still and let me pet and talk to her. Once we were off again she was hard at work leading the hike full speed but despite that I didnt find her difficult to hike with, she was active but not really pulling that hard. She had fun on the trail stopping along the way to explore rocks, springs or fallen trees or race around on the lead. Once Lil Orca reached the bridge she was soon down by the river and just as quickly walked right into the water. I am not sure if it was her first time because she stopped and looked around and then walked in the shallows up and down clearly checking it out but having a good time. It might have been just that it was cold, she liked the river and went in the water whenever we got close, Im sure shed have a blast in the summertime! Her hike followed along the river stopping several times along the water where she would explore or do zoomies racing back and forth in the mud as far as her lead would let her. She continued on following the service road back to Reedy creek the whole time still excited and happy to be out having a great hike always full of playfulness and enthusiasm! I was really impressed with Lil Orcas athleticism but at the same time when we did stop she was very sweet and companionable. I think she would do best with an active family or person, someone who would enjoy hiking or running, throwing a ball in the back yard or into the river or just a nice long daily walk around the neighborhood. As I walked her I found that as excited as she was by the woods and the river that she still seemed to know I was there, that when we stopped she would focus on me and either come over to say hi or look my way before happily leaping into the leaves. I dont doubt that much of the fun that she had on her hike was having a human to share it with, hopefully some day soon she will find that person. Cherri, thank you so much for sponsoring a shelter dog for a hike, it meant a lot to Lil Orca. She is available with Richmond Animal Care and Control.
