Limerick Camogie Notes: All Ireland Final Preview: Limerick return to Croke Park this September looking to make amends for last years narrow defeat to Galway at the same stage. After that final defeat the team got into a huddle on the pitch and vowed to get back to Croke Park in 2014. This they have done and only the final hurdle remains. Like the minor and senior hurlers before them Limerick face Kilkenny opposition in Croke Park and the team led by captain Fiona Hickey are hoping to go one better than their male counterparts give Limerick fans some reward for their great support. Their opposition Kilkenny like Galway in 2013 are fighting on two fronts as they play in both the Senior and Intermediate finals. Limerick played the Kilkenny Senior team earlier this year in Division 1 of the league with Joe Quaids side losing out in Nowlan Park by 2-13 to 1-6. Last year the two counties met in the Intermediate championship with Limerick edging a tight encounter by 1-12 to 1-8. Both sides topped their group winning all their games and Kilkenny were very impressive in over-coming Kildare in the semi-final. Limerick by contrast had a tough semi-final and struggled to overcome a strong Waterford side. Limericks team is a mix of youth and experience with players such as Aoife Sheehan, Michelle Casey and Deirdre Fitzpatrick who were part of the team that won the Intermediate Championship in 2007 along with a number of players like Caoimhe Costelloe, Karen OLeary and Rebecca Delee who have made the transition from minor ranks. Also involved are Limericks player of the Decade Sile Moynihan and last years Intermediate Soaring Star award winner Niamh Mulcahy. Limerick have seen great success already this year and with Minor, Junior A and Division 4 League titles already secured the team are looking to secure the prize on the biggest stage of all. More than half of Limerick’s match day squad have tasted All-Ireland glory already this year. Noreen Barry, Sarah Collins, Muireann Creamer and Marguerite McCarthy have won Junior A medals; Caoimhe Costelloe, Rebecca Delee, Sinead McNamara, Deborah Murphy, Karen OLeary, Jane Wilson and Leanne Browne have won Minor medals and Tara Fitzgibbon, Katie Hennessey, Donna Mulcahy and Laura ONeill have won both. If winning is a habit at moment Limerick seem to have it in spades. Squad: Caoimhe Costelloe (Adare), Sile Moynihan, Judith Mulcahy, Claire Mulcahy, Niamh Mulcahy, Marguerite McCarthy (Ahane), Sarah Collins, Katie Hennessey, Tara Fitzgibbon (Ballyagran), Mary OCallaghan, Lorraine McCarthy, Niamh Ryan (Bruff), Muireann Creamer (Cappamore), Fiona Hickey - Captain, Sarah Carey, Aoife Sheehan, Mairead Fitzgerald (Granagh/Ballingarry), Michelle Casey, Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Dymphna OBrien, Donna Mulcahy, Noreen Barry (Killeedy), Deborah Murphy (Knockaderry), Laura ONeill, Katie Campbell, Sinead McNamara, Jane Wilson (Na Piarsaigh), Karen OLeary, Rebecca Delee, Leanne Browne (Newcastle West). Limerick U15s lose out to Clare in final: Limerick 4-4 (3-1) Clare 5-8 (4-4) Munster U15 Development League Final Limericks U15 development squad lost out to Clare by 5-8 to 4-4 in a very exciting game of high quality in Monaleen on Saturday. The opening exchanges were tight and the game was scoreless for the opening period but Clare started to dominate in the middle third of the field and with four goals opened up a decisive lead 4-4 to 0-1 lead. But Limerick showed great character to come back and two goals from Aine Reynolds and one from Molly Hammersly closed the gap at the break to 6 points. Limerick started to dominate possession after the break with Laura Stack, Brid Flanagan and Clodagh Kelly making an impact and they gradually pegged back Clares lead, eventually closing the gap to a single goal 3-4 to 4-4. However a late scoring burst by Clare broke Limerick hearts to reopen the decisive lead. Limerick were to get a late goal from Rachel Considine but it was too late and Clare ran out deserving winners. This has been a great journey for this squad under the guidance of Gary Kirby, Paudie Kelly and Brian Leahy and I am sure will her from many of these players again in the coming years. Team: Connie Sheehan, Elizabeth Maloney, Aine Tangney, Zara White, Jane Kirby, Alice OConnor, Stacey Flynn, Brid Flanagan, Beth Stapleton, Clodagh Kelly, Laura Stack, Aine Reynolds, Rachel Considine, Molly Hammersly, Isabella Condon.
