Limited Atonement A belief of that Christ did not provide - TopicsExpress

Limited Atonement A belief of that Christ did not provide atonement for all but only those whom God elected. The reasoning behind this is that God would not cause Christ to suffer for the sins of those who He knew would not accept Him. If Christ really did provide atonement for all the sins of the world, the entire world would be saved regardless of the volition of man. Critics of this doctrine immediately point out John 3:16 says that Christ came for the entire world while defenders insist that world does not literally mean every person but rather people all over the world that will be saved. There was much wording that has been taken out of context, such as ALL, whosoever, and everyone. The apostle Paul used these words as did other writers of the New Testament, implying that Salvation was not only for the Jews, but for gentiles as well. It did not mean that everyone would be saved. Clearly not everyone will be saved. I support this doctrine …Christ would not have shed His precious blood for those he knew would reject Him. Christ died to redeem the Elect. The Atonement was Limited in its intention, not in its value. ~ Norm
