Limited Time Engagement! The Man of the Shroud Exhibit at Marytown Sept. 4 through Sept 12. The Friars invite you to see the Man of the Shroud Photographic Exhibit, open daily from 9 to 6 at Marytown. About the Shroud of Turin ~ “One of the most perplexing enigmas of modern times” – National Geographic “ A distinguished relic linked to the mystery of our redemption.” – Blessed John Pau II “An icon written with the blood of a whipped man, crowned with thorns, crucified and pierced on his right side.” – Pope-Emeritus Benedict XVI “By means of the Holy Shroud, the unique and supreme Word of God comes to us: Love made man, incarnate in our history; the merciful love of God who has taken upon himself all the evil of the world to free us from its power…” – Pope Francis The Shroud of Turin has long been venerated by the faithful and is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically studied religious icons in history. In 1898 a photograph of the Shroud, taken for archival purposes before the Shroud was to be moved from the church to a museum, revealed that the Shroud appeared to actually be a photo-like negative of a crucified man. It was considered inconceivable that a medieval forger could have produced a negative image, let alone such a detailed and precise image as on the Shroud. Thus began the intense, international study of Shroud of Turin. As science has advanced over the last few decades, so has the speculation on how the image of the Man of the Shroud was made. With more two decades of exhaustive and medical, historical and scientific research, the Center for the Study of the Passion of the Christ and the Holy Shroud led by the late Monsignor Guilio Ricci, President of the Roman Center for the Study of Holy Shroud at the Vatican developed an exhibit explaining the various aspects of the relic. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a full length photographic image of the Shroud made by the Eastman Kodak Co. In addition, the exhibit contains a nearly life-size crucified corpus showing the wounds of Christ corresponding to the passion narrative in the Gospel accounts and the wounds shown on the Shroud. The exhibit contains 92 panels detailing the history and science of the Shroud. This moving and informative mobile exhibit on the Shroud of Turin is on display at Marytown for a limited time. Now on display through Sept. 12, 2014. Dont miss this fascinating and moving presentation of the crucified man of the Shroud. (4 photos)
