PRFC Wine Club PRFC are pleased to announce the formation of their Wine Club, which will be run by Charles Robb [WSET diploma] of Robb Brothers Wine Merchants. Charles is a geologist by trade and has worked in Turkey, Italy, Germany and Denmark. After 4 years of wine courses and having achieved top student in N. Ireland, Charles won travelling scholarships to Portugal and Spain during vintage [from the WSET courses]. Charles has travelled extensively to Australia, New Zealand, California, Spain, France, Italy and Germany searching out the best value quality wines ; and is looking forward to passing on his interpretation of how the wine world works. Charles will be guiding you through the complicated maze of wine jargon, helping decipher what the French and other European appellations really mean. The four week course will involve extensive tasting [organise a driver or lifts] Learning how to taste properly, how to assess quality, and the art of food and wine matching. Week 1 A rough overview of the market, and the huge difference in which Europe sells its wines compared to the New World – Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, California. Learning Tasting Techniques. An introduction to Food and Wine Matching. Wines to be tasted: Sparkling : Cava, Prosecco and Champagne Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand, Loire Valley, Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet blends from Australia, Chile , Bordeaux Week 2 Food and wine matching Wines to be tasted: Chardonnays from Australia, New Zealand and France Shiraz/Syrah from Australia and France Week 3 Wines to be tasted: Pinot Grigio/Riesling from New Zealand, Italy, Germany Merlot from Australia, Bordeaux Week 4 Wines to be tasted: Obscure Whites Chenin blanc, Ribolla Gialla, Chasselas Pinot Noir, Amarone, Ripasso, Rioja Dessert wines/Ports/etc..
