Limpopo premier, Cassel Mathale, has resigned with immediate effect. He has handed in his resignation to the provincial Speaker, Rudolph Phala, this morning. Mathale was stripped of his ANC Limpopo Chairmanship when President Jacob Zuma disbanded the provincial executive committee following reports of factionalism. The ANC is still to announce his successor. According to media reports Mathale has been told to resign by ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe. Mantashe allegedly tracked Mathale down in Italy over the weekend, where he was on holiday, and ordered him to return to South Africa and hand in his resignation.
