Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office News Release Sheriff’s Detectives Make Arrest in Mini Storage Break-ins December 3, 2014 Lincolnton, NC – Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives have made an arrest in connection with a rash of break-ins that occurred at Harris Mini Storage at 6135 E NC 150 Hwy and Guardian Storage at 4150 Business Highway 16 over a more than three month period. The break-ins are believed to have occurred between September 2014 and November 13, 2014. In November the mini-storage property owners checked storage units and found six without locks that had them the day before and deputies found 2 units with locks that had been cut but were still hanging from the hasp. Break-ins and larcenies were also reported by renters at the mini storage facility on several occasions in October and November 2014. Items stolen from the units included tools, appliances, vehicle parts, laptops, household goods, collectibles and other items valued at tens of thousands of dollars. In some cases victims arrived at the storage facility to open their unit but it would not open. That is when they found their locks had been cut off and a different lock placed on the unit. A break came in the case when one of the victims identified some of his property the suspect had for sale in the parking lot of the now closed Harris Teeter store on East Main Street in Lincolnton and contacted the Communications Center. At other times the stolen property was being sold at area flea markets. Some of the stolen items were recovered from a storage unit the suspect had rented at Harris Mini Storage. Other items were found at the suspect’s residence on Jaclyn Lane, Lincolnton. Dawn Marie Knott, 47, of 1370 Jaclyn Lane, Lincolnton, NC was arrested on several occasions in the case with the latest being December 2, 2014 and is charged with a total of thirteen (13) felony counts each of Breaking and Entering a Building, Larceny after Breaking and Entering and thirteen (13) felony counts of Possession of Stolen Goods. She was placed in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a total secured bond of $50,000. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending in the case. Detectives Frank Runyon, Greg Hager and David Brooks are the investigating officers. Investigators say personnel at Harris Mini-Storage were a tremendous help in the investigation and bringing closure to the case. # # # #
