Linda Update – Jan 13, 2015 Linda has been under hospice care for 6 days now. The new pain medication regime is a slow drip of hydromorphone and it’s handling her pain levels much better. But, the trade off is that she’s mostly asleep and barely aware of her surroundings. She’s not in pain, but she’s no longer there to communicate with you. They’ve discontinued other treatments and have her on only the minimal hydration needed to deliver the pain meds. When we can get her to respond, she acknowledges she’s not in pain. The nurses say they give her some extra meds before they move her to a different position, as that movement/manipulation is quite painful. Linda refused to go to Evergreen Hospice because she’d come to know and trust the nurses in Med/Surg East – Evergreen and didn’t what to leave them. They’ve been wonderful, indeed. Tomorrow is Kenda’s birthday. Linda’s family has a strange history of passing on holidays and important family days. One of her greatest wishes was not to die on Kenda’s birthday. If she succeeds in that wish, I suspect she will let go. But never underestimate a fighter like Linda.
