Linde wins design deal on Salalah ammonia plant - 23-Jun-2014 A contract for the construction of a major ammonia plant in Salalah Free Zone, in the south of Oman, is expected to be awarded in the first half of 2015. Takamul Investment Company, the downstream investment arm of Oman Oil Company SAOC, is spearheading the development of a 1,000 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) capacity ammonia venture. The facility will be built adjoining the existing methanol scheme of Salalah Methanol Company, which is 10 per cent owned by Takamul. Feedstock for the ammonia plant will be sourced from the Salalah methanol project. Earlier this month, Takamul invited international engineering firms to prequalify for its contract to undertake the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) of its ammonia project. A 6-7 hectare site adjacent to Salalah Methanol Company has been earmarked for the construction of the ammonia project within the Salalah Free Zone. As part of its brief, the selected contractor will be required to set up a plant with a capacity of 1,000 MTPD of anhydrous ammonia, complete with utilities and offsite facilities that includes desalinated storage and remineralisation systems, BFW systems, sweet cooling water system, seawater cooling tower, waste water treatment, ASU based nitrogen gas generator unit, steam turbine generator units, process flares, process holding compressors, product storage & pipeline systems and tie ins, buildings and any other off-sites required for normal operation of the plants. In addition, the successful bidder will be required to enter into non-disclosure agreements directly with Linde and Haldor Topsoe, the process licensors for ammonia technology, as part of the prequalification process.
