Linfield goalkeeper Ross Glendinning spoke to Linfieldfc after his fantastic penalty save ensured a hard fought and vital victory in yesterdays dramatic game against Portadown - on a day when he signed on the dotted line for another 2 years with the club. Im delighted to have signed a new contract with the club. The gaffer spoke to me on Thursday night and said he, the board and the Team Committee wanted to offer me a new 2 year contract extension and Im absolutely delighted. I didnt give it a second thought. I just signed it there this morning before todays game and Im really happy, as it means I can look to and plan for the future. I just want to concentrate and put all my efforts in to continuing to improve. Im glad to have my future sorted out now, as its good to get it out of the way. Im still very young and I can now focus totally on playing and improving and helping the team to do well. The gaffer wanted to get the future of a few players sorted out and as you can see today, hes started to do that and hopefully, I can repay the faith hes shown in me with continuing good performances for the club. We just need to keep going with this good run were on. Im delighted for Niall, Ross, Andy and Mark that theyve got their contracts as well. Obviously. Ross Clarke and Niall Quinn are the same age as me and we all came up through the youth ranks together and today its nice that weve all signed new contracts on the same day as each other. Ross Clarke was injured for todays game but he was flying when he was playing. Niall is playing really well at left back and Im playing for the team at the minute, so its all going well for the three of us. It just shows any young player that you can get the chance to progress to the first team, if you apply yourself and work hard. Todays result is of course the best way to celebrate the new contracts. I thought we started like a house on fire and scored after 2 minutes. I thought I maybe should have done better for their first goal and then Mark McAllister scored a wonderful second goal as they got their heads up. However, our second half performance was probably our best performance of the season and the supporters got right behind us and it was just a brilliant result for us. We really put them under pressure and the atmosphere was brilliant with the crowd behind us. I think we got the result we deserved and its a hugely important result for us. Im obviously over the moon with the penalty save but thats what Im there to try and do. To be fair to the referee, I thought it was a penalty and obviously, it was a huge moment in the game, coming as late in the day as it was. Luckily enough, I picked the right side and got down and managed to hold on to the ball. It was hit hard and I think the shot near bust a hole in my stomach. I could hardly breathe after the shot hit me but I think it was one of those moments where the adrenalin just kicks in and it was a wonderful moment when I knew Id held on to the ball and wed managed to hold on to the 3 points that I think we really deserved for that second half display. Making saves is what Im there for. I felt I should have done better for the first goal so hopefully, that penalty save can help repay the lads for the one where I felt I could have done better earlier. It was an exciting game with the right result. There were lots of incidents and it was a great atmosphere with our cheering supporters after the final whistle. It keeps the momentum going but the Glens had a great result today. Their tails will be up after their win today, so the atmosphere on Boxing Day is going to be brilliant and Im really looking forward to it. View related match report : Linfield vs Portadown
