Lipstick Cosmetics have become one of the daily necessities for women and even men. Lipstick is also one of the beauty products that attract women not only for charming appearance but also for protecting our lip. The composition of lipstick may vary from brand to brand, but the main parts are usually similar especially oil and wax made up about 60% of total weight of lipstick. The essential ingredients used in lipstick formulation are: 1. Wax It provides hardness and creaminess. Luster and hardness usually depends on amount of wax used. The wax is typically used are beeswax, candelilla wax, and carnauba wax. 2. Wax paste/Fatty Material It is added to lubricate lipstick after application. 3. Oil The purpose is to dispense the pigment. Besides, it also provides comfort and lubrication. The oils that could be used in lipstick are castor oil, vegetable, lanolin mineral, and cocoa butter. 4. Colorant /Pigments/Dyes These components are used to impart the desired color of shade to the lipstick. 5. Fragrance It is normally added in lipstick in small amounts to provide a pleasant scent, and also it can suppress the smell of other ingredients. Perfume required for lipstick should be free from irritating effects and be stable with other ingredients. 7. Antioxidants Since many materials used in lipsticks are easily oxidized in air and produce an unpleasant odor, antioxidants are usually added to help stabilize the formulation. BHT, BHA, citric acid, oil soluble compounds such as vitamins A, E, C are commonly added as antioxidant. 8. Preservatives Because usually lipstick lipstick is in anhydrous form, therefore, bacteria or fungi can grow in. For this reason, a small amount of preservative is necessarily filled. Propylparaben is widely used in both food and cosmetic industries. 9. Active ingredients They help improve longterm benefits. 10. other ingredients -Pearl essence, is made from the shimmery scales of a fish.
