Lisa asks Hi, my son was diagnosed as being on the Autistic - TopicsExpress

Lisa asks Hi, my son was diagnosed as being on the Autistic spectrum when he was 3, he is now 7 and recently been told that he has ADHD or ADD but as they have lost the connors report they are not sure which one he will be labelled with, we have an appointment at our local child development centre in January, they want to give him medication, I guess to calm him and make him concentrate at school, they will start him on a low dose and the effects will last 8 hours so the entirety of his time at school, I understand that it may help him focus and do his school activities and not harm the other pupils etc, but I dont want my son to be a zombie!! He is a very bright, intelligent loving little boy, I want the best for him obviously but I am in 2 minds as what to do, I think his school have asked for the medication, and if I give it to him am I going to have to deal with the come down ie.. is he going to expel all of his energy, frustrations and whatever else once he comes home and the medication wears off? When he is at home he is my little boy, I guess because I am used to the way he is, I can cope and deal with his issues because I havent known him to be any different, if that makes sense? We take everyday as it comes and treat every situation as it happens, I dont know what the medication it will be, so I cant ask opinions about it or if there are any side effects, I also wasnt asked if I wanted to try any medication the paediatrician just blurted it out, please can I have some help, the last thing I want is my little boy to just be a shell of himself, I have older children who have friends that have been on medication for ADHD and have been told that it is a horrible feeling whilst on the medication, being sick, not knowing the time of day and generally not feeling like yourself, and if ever this person had children that needed the same sort of thing, he would never in a million years allow his children to take it
