Lisa got a letter today from the Clay County Health Dept. that told of a new Illinois law that started July 1st. The new law states that all food handlers have to take an 8 hour course on food safety. The old law required that one person per shift had to have a license. They did reduce the cost to $12.00, but Clay Co. wont start the classes until Oct. 20. and then only on weekdays. Lisa employs some high school kids, so they wont be able to take the class. In the restaurant trade there is a high turnover rate with employees. So she can spend $12 getting an employee certified only to have them move on at anytime. Even places like the Elks who serves frozen pizzas will have to have their bartenders certified. The only places that are exempt are places that have volunteer non paid employees. So more rules and laws. This has to end or soon there wont be any businesses in the state of Illinois. But maybe thats what the our lawmakers want. Illinois, the bedroom state for people who work in Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana.
