Liselotte Elizabeth Charlotte, Princess Palatine, Duchesse - TopicsExpress

Liselotte Elizabeth Charlotte, Princess Palatine, Duchesse dOrleans, died on this day 8 December 1722. Liselotte had to convert to Catholicism at the time of her marriage to Monsieur - Philippe, Duc dOrleans, the younger brother of King Louis XIV of France. Monsieur was previously married to Charles II of Englands favourite sister, Minette. His first wife having died at a very young age, he then married Liselotte, who herself had previously been a possible contender to be the wife of William III, Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic and later King William III of England. Liselotte is best known for her gossipy letters, which detail many of the happenings of the French court. She is a secondary character in my WIP novel about William and Mary. 1) Portrait of Elisabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate (1652-1722), Duchess of Orléans by Rigaud. 2)Porträt Lieselottes von der Pfalz mit einem Mohr, 1680, by Francois de Troy.
