With a few tricky pin positions scoring was not going to be easy but as always some people found their range with some excellent golf played. Kevin Dorgan (5) from Cork Golf Club is the 2013 Junior Scratch Cup winner with a super round of 70 gross or one over par, serious golf and a worthy score of winning this competition. Kevin compiled 2 nines of 35 with birdies coming at the 9th, 14th & 15th and sealed his win by the narrowest of margins. A super score and well deserved victory for Kevin. Second place went to Martin Daly (5) from Monkstown who shot a two over par round of 71, super golf indeed. He turned in level par 34 and was 1 under with 4 to play and but for a poor finish he would have claimed the ultimate prize. Still it is golf that most of us just dream about playing so well done Martin. Shaun Power (7) continued his fine run of good form winning the best nett prize with a fine 67. Shawn had no fewer than 10 pars and with birdies at the 3rd and 18th to compile two nines of 37 each for a 74 gross, nett 67. Bill Aherne (12) from East Cork is the Intermediate Scratch cup winner for 2013 with an excellent round of 77. Bill started on fire and played the front nine in just two over. A steady back nine of 41 saw him return a gross total of 77, a clear winner over the weekend so well done Bill. As a former member of Lismore Bill certainly used his local knowledge well and his birdies on 9 and 17 put him on his way to victory. Kenneth Anderson (15) from Fermoy claimed second spot with a fine 80 gross, winning on the last nine. Out in 41 he came back in 39 with a nice birdie at the 10th and a fine tally of 7 pars over the round was a fine performance from Kenneth. Richie Ormonde (12) claimed the best nett with a 68 and was the man pipped for second so it was some consolation getting the nett prize. A 38, 42 spilt was the way he compiled his fine 80, good to see him showing form and recovering well after his serious knee operations. The Minor Scratch cup was tucked away nicely by the in form Michael Keane (18) with a fine gross score of 86. Michael played his usual steady golf, 2 pars on the front, 2 on the back, no fuss and no disasters saw him play two nines of 42 and 44 respectively for an 86 gross and the title for 2013. Billy Ormonde (20) came in second with 90 blows, 47 on the front and 43 on the back including 5 tasty pars. Dom Spillane tidied up proceedings with the nett prize with a 73. It was great to see so many outsiders compete this weekend and congratulations to all the winners. Just a note to all members please be very careful when completing your score cards as sadly there was a few players who had to be disqualified over the weekend, not a nice thing for the competitions staff to have to do but it does happen from time to time. Busy Schedule continues throughout August August continues to be a busy month in Lismore with some mouth watering events taking place. After the stresses and strains of the Scratch cups last weekend we have an Open Fourball on the 17th & 18th which is sure to be an enjoyable weekend of golf. Playing in the fourball format is a great social yet highly competitive days golf so be sure to pencil in a partner for that weekend as it is one not to be missed. To complete a real competitive few weeks of golf we have the Presidents Prize for 2013 which will be held on the 23rd, 24th, & 25th of August. Be sure to earmark a time that weekend in Dermot’s prize with a chance for all to compete in our second big major of the year. Timesheets are currently posted in the clubhouse. All Ireland Fever With the Waterford Minors and Cork Hurlers winning the semi finals on Sunday, the club will be awash with excitement over the next 4 weeks as there will be lots of hurling talked about along the fairways as both teams prepare for their respective All Ireland clashes on the 8th of September.
