List ‘x’ random facts about yourself, “like” and I will - TopicsExpress

List ‘x’ random facts about yourself, “like” and I will give you a number. I have been given two numbers, ‘6’ and ‘7’, so Susan, you said ‘6’ so pick your six favorites of the seven. Four years ago a similar FB game went around, but you had to come up with 25 random facts about yourself. Now that was hard! So here are the seven of them that happened to catch my eye tonight. 1. I was once mentioned in Sports Illustrated (during April in 1967). Very few people know why, and it wasnt the swimsuit issue. Theres a story there. 2. I lost a brother Steve to cancer and a brother-in-law Rob to AIDS. I miss their happy spirits even now many years later. Its not that I feel sad, but I remember the happy times with both of them. 3. My godparents actually played a role in my life, although far later (grad school at University of Vermont) than anyone would have thought. This role is overlooked a lot now, too bad actually. I have been named as an official godfather six times, to a cousin, and some nieces and nephews, but I really only functioned in that role for three of them. 4. I once taught at Harvard, rocket science at that! (there is a story there too). 5. When college classmates of mine and some of my faculty teachers went down South to register black voters, I considered going with them. I even called home about it. But as a chemistry major, I couldn’t have made up the labs I would miss. A number of us who didn’t go walked down to the courthouse in Huntingdon the morning they left and I remember crossing our arms and singing “We Shall Overcome” for my first time ever to send them off. I was one of the few there who had heard of Selma, Alabama, at that time, because they had a minor league baseball team there that a kid from my high school had played for. Within a couple of weeks some of my classmates and our poet in residence (and English instructor) were pictured in Life magazine, one with blood running down his face. I never would have recovered from that violence spiritually if I had gone. Sometimes I think we have made some progress – other times I’m not so sure. 6. I sport a perfect shooting percentage in basketball (three for three) against NBA players! (Yes, theres a story there too). 7. I love to do French braids.
