Listen - to pay attention to someone or something in order to hear what is being said, sung, played, etc. Speaking - the action of conveying information or expressing ones thoughts and feelings in spoken language. People are speaking but are we listening? Too often we are quick to judge, condemn and even convict a person in our hearts and minds based on what we see. If we learn to stop and listen to what people are speaking we can then see their hearts. Yesterday I was listening to a song by Nicki Minaj -(dont judge me or do, I cant control anyones judgements anyway) and one particular part of the song grabbed me, it captured my attention as I heard her heart expressed in that small moment - She said - I aint gotta get a plaque, I aint gotta get awards I just walk up out the door all the girls will applaud. All the girls will come in as long as they understand That Im fighting for the girls that never thought they could win. Cause before they could begin you told them it was the end But I am here to reverse the curse that they live in. We look at her and many like her and we think whatever thoughts we may think, good or bad. The antics, the outfits, before I judged, now I think, what is she seeking deep beneath. What is the broken place screaming to be healed? We speak words that dont bring life, love or healing and yet the keys to their freedom are in our hands, hearts and mouths... As I listened to that song, that small portion of a moment on the tip of her pen said it all - Her mission no matter how contrary it looks really is not that much different from mine, to bring change to the lives of those who thought they could never win. She speaks my language and I am committed to praying for her until she comes into the understanding of who she really is - Gods royal daughter. Do we ever really know someones heart and mission? Not until we actually take the time to listen while they are speaking. Lord help me to see, listen and hear with ears of Love. TR
