Listen Only To Jesus Jesus took Peter, James and John up on a - TopicsExpress

Listen Only To Jesus Jesus took Peter, James and John up on a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shined as bright as the sun, and his clothes became brighter than light. And right next to Him, on either side, stood Moses and Elijah. So taken by this sight that Peter said, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Matthew 17:4 NKJV) Immediately after Peter spoke these words a bright cloud enveloped all of them and the Lord spoke saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 7:5b NKJV) Afterwards Moses and Elijah were taken away and only Jesus was left standing there, no longer in His transfigured state. This event is known as the Transfiguration where Jesus appeared in His glorified form. Along with Jesus stood both Moses and Elijah. And the site completely overwhelmed the three disciples. Peter immediately wanted to build tents, or more literally, tabernacles, for each one of them. This would be a place where each would stay and where others could come and converse and possibly worship them. But before the thought could be acted upon the Father removed Moses and Elijah and told the disciples that Jesus was His beloved Son, and it was to Him and Him only that they were to listen to, not to the others, not to Moses or Elijah (the law and the prophets). This coincides with yesterday’s devotional on the overcoming church and how only Jesus is to be lifted up in our midst. We need to be careful not to start building tabernacles or start worshipping the teachings of men or of angels over the teachings of Jesus and God’s word. We must be careful of giving adoration or admiration to anyone else but Jesus alone. It is Jesus only that we must listen to.
