Listen up! I know this is long but stay tuned for some sweet new music! I have seen several statuses to the effect of Anybody know any good new music I can add to my iPod? Likewise, I see a lot of support for local art, but not everybody knows where to find it. Im just lucky enough that my work has brought me into contact with some crazy talented artists. SO! With that in mind, I thought Id share my variety list of 8 of Louisville musics most incredible artists Ive personally encountered, in no set order. Be sure to check these bands out so you can say you were jamming to them before they made it big! Jack Holiday and the Westerners | Genre: Independent Folk Rock With covers ranging from Queen to Outkast & a bevy of epic originals performed with the most spectacular array of instruments youll see this side of the Ohio, JHW offers something for most every musical taste. My top track: Cassandra Lee Listen: jackholidayandthewesterners/music (or, better yet, live) Buy: iTunes JaLin Roze | Genre: Hip-Hop If youre like me, you enjoy an intelligent rapper whose flow is matched by the wit of his lyric. JaLins got both, and much more substance than many artists in his genre. My top track: Give It Up Listen: jalinroze/home Buy: (FREE downloads!) jalinroze.bandcamp Jenna Dean | Genre: Funk / Neo Hip-Hop Its rare when a band can go from playing a swanky, $150-a-ticket wine party to melting the skulls of everyone in the back of a packed antiques shop speakeasy, but thats exactly how these guys roll. Super smooth vocals, catchy tunes, & some of the coolest guys youll meet. My top track: Blown Listen: jennadeanmusic Buy: ??? (guys, care to fill me in?) Artifex Pereo | Genre: Hard Rock I already knew these guys were awesome since I get to work with them most every day, but I was completely blown away the first time I heard their music. Its hard to believe this came out of Louisville! Their style is energetic, raw, & passionate with an incredible level of instrumental skill. My top pick: Hands Of Penance Listen: artifexpereo.bandcamp (or YouTube their new album) Buy: toothandnail/artists/324/Artifex_Pereo Billy Goat Strut Revue | Genre: Bourbon Jazz Im a huge aficionado of the old crooners, & Ive got to admit, this band definitely does them justice! Their songs will transport you back to the golden years of prohibition-era jazz with the big band tracks & belted-out vocals. Its a refreshing break from your standared 21st-century fare. My top pick: Mambo Italiano (cover) Listen: cdbaby/cd/billygoatstrutrevue Buy: amazon/This-Bourbon-Billy-Strut-Revue/dp/B00D047TRU (or iTunes) THE PASS | Genre: Indie / Electro Pop If you havent caught them at Z-Bar or as a featured artist on MTV a few years back, you definitely need to get to dancing to their catchy synth beats. Its mellow, upbeat, foot-tapping music. My top pick: Alone Again Listen: thepasstheband.bandcamp Buy: iTunes Cheyenne Mize | Genre: Folk / Singer-Songwriter This songbird lets her light, lyrical voice float over elegant instrumentation that features an array of folksy string and percussion sounds. Her sound is simple & uncomplicated yet indisputably powerful. This is definitely a lady to watch. My top pick: Whole Heart Listen: cheyennemize/video Buy: cheyennemize/store In Lightning | Genre: Instrumental This band avoids distracting vocals in favour of full focus on their diverse instrumentation & rich melodics, creating the kind of energized vibe that makes for enjoyable listening by itself but becomes powerhouse background music for everything from runway shows (which yes, theyve played) to daily activity. My top pick: Turn It Wild Listen: youtube/channel/UC2gUdCIZmDb_sQ0CNWUcAEg Buy: (FREE downloads!) soundcloud/in-lightning
