Listen up internet, Ive got something to say... In recent years, and especially right now due to the situation in Ferguson, Mo., the internet has been inundated with social media which paints our law enforcement agents as anything from inept buffoons to jackbooted thugs. I do not doubt that there are legitimate cases where law enforcement agents have overstepped their bounds and have acted in an unjust manner. They are only human after all. But, it seems to me that all the scrutiny and emphasis on examples of police trampling individuals rights has created something of an atmosphere of open disdain if not outright aggression towards police officers. You simply cannot log on to any social media outlet these days without some video of some jackwagon shouting at a cop I know my rights!. Now, heres the thing people... I dont know any police officers personally. But Ive had multiple experiences with them in the past and I must say they have been nothing but professional and just in their dealings with me. You could say well yeah Farron, but youre a white guy, youve got it easy. You dont know what its like to be racially profiled. Sure. Of course I dont. But you know what? Police officers these days are getting occupationally profiled. If youre a cop then its just assumed that youre a giant a-hole who wants nothing more than to violate the rights of the civilian populace. Police are people. If you treat them with respect they will do the same to you. This has been my experience. And you know what? If you get all bent out of shape about a random vehicle check, perhaps you should consider whether or not you have anything to hide. *end rant*
