Listening this past week to the NPR stories on overmedicating residents in nursing homes, I have to comment: If we stop calling them nursing homes, perhaps we as a society will recognize more of the individuals humanness, and stop medicating what cannot be medicated. In that vein, the stories have reminded me of the afternoon spent Christmas caroling with my mom. And Santa? That was one of the residents. You can see he does not need any nursing. He just needs care.
