Listening to a documentary on Leeds Carnival today on the radio and one of our Elders mentioned that Carnival was a celebration of our emancipation from slavery, and THAT is why we emulate our Ancestors dancing on the streets. It occurred to me that too many of us celebrate the dancing and NOT the militancy and revolution that took place in order for the dance to be possible. Has Carnival now become one of the great distractions that stops us from concentrating our efforts on our essential elevation?
