Listening to the following story on the radio on my way to work this morning: This ex-software engineer lost his job during the dot-com bust. As his unemployment benefits run out he finds himself unable to afford the apartment he is staying in so he starts living in his car. He says that he has to use the fold down seats in the back of his car, half of him in the trunk and half in the back seat just to sleep. He pulls together all of his money, and borrows money from a friend to afford a mobile home. He parks his mobile home on the street until the police come by and tell him he has to move on. He then finds another place, and another and another until he ends up back in the same place. What’s the reason he stays in the town he’s in you ask. His wife is buried in a local cemetery and he wants to be close to her. Makes me grateful for the things I have.
