Listing Priority on Dynamic PPC: The question was brought up - TopicsExpress

Listing Priority on Dynamic PPC: The question was brought up to me what happens when we have multiple dealers using the dynamic used car system in the same area and are bidding the same amount on the same keywords. Google is always going to favor the ads it believes will get the clicks. So the first thing it checks is the relevance of the ad and website to the keyword being searched. So at this point, if the user is searching for a Ford vehicle, the Ford dealer’s ads are going to show up higher. If two Ford dealers are competing for the same word, the next thing Google looks at is past performance. Ads that have had the better click through rate (CTR) are going to show up higher. If both campaigns are too fresh Google will analyze the subtle differences in ad text and website content to determine which ad is a better fit. At this level there are as many variables as there in SEO. I was surprised to learn that location has no effect on which ad will show above the other. Obviously, an ad will not show if the searcher is located outside of the campaign’s radius, but if the user is closer to 1 dealer than another, that will not affect which one shows up higher.
