Little Cat (3) runs into the park. There is only one other child there, a little girl about the same size as him, dressed in the local school uniform. He runs past ignoring her and heads to the climbing frame. Hello! she calls. He says nothing. Hello! she calls again, smiling at him. He wanders over cautiously. Hello. I go to _____ school, she tells him confidently. Do you too? No, I dont, he replies. He climbs to the top of the climbing frame and she continues to chat to him. Whats your name? How old are you? My name is _____, Im four! LC answers her questions, growing more confident as they continue to talk. I went to school today, she announces proudly. Schools the best part of my day! I dont go to school, replies LC. We home educate. I dont want to go to school. He called me Kate! the girl calls to me. Thats not my name! Not Kate, Home Educate, I tell her. It means he learns at home. Oh, OK, she smiles. They continue to play happily together, swapping tricks and talking about their lives, both happy in their own very different paths until, eventually, it is time for her to go home. Two very different children, both very happy and secure in their contrasting styles of learning. One extroverted, one introverted. Each child accepting the others differences without judgement. Every child is different and where one may thrive, another may flounder. The best way to avoid this is to really *know* your child, to listen to their opinions on what they want from life and to accommodate their needs to the best of your ability
