Little Jimmy Dickens (December 19, 1920-January 2, 2015). Whether you like country Music or not, Little Jimmy Dickens was the real deal! I love this clip, Jimmy had the voice, was a consummate showman, and you gotta love the twin leads between the guitar and steel. When Jimmy sang Foot Of The Bed, you know he lived it..... I was around Jimmy a few times over the years, he was always a gracious man. The first time I met him, was on the road in the mid-80s while playing with Ronnie McDowell. It was either before or after our set at a big country Music festival, we were on the bus and our other guitarist, who I will just call The Wasp, had just opened a bottle of Jack Daniels. No doubt, The Wasp was feeling pretty good already. We hear the bus door open, and up steps Little Jimmy Dickens to say hello to Ronnie. The Wasp immediately held up the Jack Daniels bottle and told Jimmy to come have a drink. Jimmys eyes got real big, didnt say a word, and bolted off the bus. Dont guess he wanted to have any part of the shenanigans, and man, that little fellow was fast!!! Jimmy was in the Vince Gill Dont Let Our Love Love Start Slippin Away video with us back in 1992, he has a great cameo at the end. Hes also in our Great Acoustics video. Hes at the 3:25 mark briefly, he was introducing us onstage at a gig in Nashville back in 2011. The last time we saw Jimmy was at the George Jones tribute at Bridgstone last year, theres a great photo of Richard Young and Jimmy at The Kentucky Headhunters FB site, taken by our friend Alan Messer, go check it out.... God bless Jimmy Dickens. Folks like Jimmy, Ernest Tubb, Faron Young, George Jones, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and so many more were the real deal, lived what they sang, they had soul....
