Little Kadee was such a bashful girl at the shelter - we are so - TopicsExpress

Little Kadee was such a bashful girl at the shelter - we are so happy to hear she has not only found her forever home, but also helped her new mom through a rough time. There she was…just delivered to the Calgary Humane Society a year ago October 2013. She was scared, dirty, matted, and her world had just turned upside-down. One of my 13 year old fur kids had crossed the rainbow bridge six months earlier, and I knew my remaining old doggie pal would be following soon. A friend called up to tell me that a new intake was waiting for me at the Humane Society and would be the perfect fit for me and my old dog Tommy. I hesitated. Thought about it for a while. Did I want another dog? Well, at the coaxing of my friend, Tommy and I decided to make a visit to see this lost, little doggie soul. When we first met, Kadee was totally out of sorts. I knew she wanted love, but she sure didn’t trust humans. My heart went out to her, and those soulful brown eyes. We gave her space, and decided we’d come back for a second visit, and see how it goes. The second visit was much better, and she even seemed to relax around us somewhat. Again, we returned home to ponder the situation. I was quickly growing very attached to her. After a little more thought, I knew Tommy and I needed Kadee as much as she needed us. That settled it. I adopted Kadee and she came to her forever home last October. For the first week, I thought “what did I do?!?” She was not leash trained and was pretty much terrified of everyone and everything she encountered. She pretty much hid out in the kennel in my room for the first two weeks she was home. I wasn’t fully convinced that at 3 years old she could be “fixed”. Well, with much patience, love and LOTS of help from dog savvy friends, Kadee has become an absolutely wonderful dog and companion. She is bright, curious, loyal, and now LOVES her walks. She has excellent recall, and off leash is no problem at all. She positively LOVES the attention she gets on our walks from passersby who all stop and have a visit with this oddly cute dog. In fact, if someone doesn’t exclaim about her cuteness, she gives them the “hey, over here” look, turns around, and butts their leg with her nose until they have to acknowledge her. I NEVER would have thought this Fraidy-Kadee would so totally come out of her shell! What a surprise! She was with me when it came Tommy’s time to leave us, and for that I am eternally grateful. It was so comforting to come home to her happy face after losing Tommy. Kadee has convinced me that dogs will always be a part of my life. She makes me smile and laugh every day. She is heaven sent. Thank you Calgary Humane Society.
