Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) has a huge native range - TopicsExpress

Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) has a huge native range in the US and is fairly widespread in Georgia as well. It is well appreciated in natural and garden settings alike. Fine Gardening offers this glowing description: “Little bluestem is a tidy, finely textured clumping grass with a blue-green summer color. Its silvery seed heads rise to a height of nearly 2 feet in late summer and are at their best when backlit in the morning or afternoon sun. In fall, the grass turns a rosy rust color that lasts all winter.” A number of cultivars have been developed as selections from the species. This one is ‘Prairie Blues.’ You’ll be glad to know that this is one plant that does not appreciate rich soil. Sounds like it would be perfect for a spot in the typical residential landscape.
