Little update: still hanging around duke pediatric bone marrow transplant unit waiting for everything to line up. There are tons of work up tests they have to do followed by a collaborative idea of what he looks like going into another transplant. Tuesday he goes under again so they can add a third central line/iv (he only has two and they need at least 3 this time), another bone marrow biopsy, and a lumbar puncture to check spinal fluid. Hopefully by Thursday well have our ducks in a row and have an idea of how hes held up. Then, a few days later ( maybe the following Monday?), well begin conditioning which consists of really high dose chemo for 10 days to clear out any stem cells in his bone marrow so he can get an unrelated cord blood transplant. They use a countdown system so the process starts on day -10, -9, -8 and so on until day 0 which is transplant day. Then we celebrate small victories on day +30, etc. In the meantime, his body is not making new cells yet from the round of chemo he completed over a month ago at home so his immune system is on vacation. So hes spiked a fever, picked up a cough and tested positive for a virus. Not a happy camper overall but not due to feeling bad rather he is on strict isolation from the other kids so he cant leave his room to play, socialize, or get exercise. If i leave his room even to use the restroom its gloves, mask and contact gown...fun. Hopefully the fevers clear and eventually hell be off isolation but the doctor says his body is in no shape to create antibodies and clear the virus soon enough to be off isolation the entire time....thats months stuck in a room. We got some scary statistics that Im trying to debunk (I suppose avoiding reality) but Im thinking Ill try and just do the one foot in front of the other thing and not look too much at all that right now. And tonight Im hanging with my baby girl Molly who came down here which was sooooooo needed!
