She has published extensively on the impact of the Great Irish Famine and has lectured around the world on the relationship between poverty, famine and emigration. Her latest publication, included in the recently launched historical volume called “Mayo: History and Society, is based on Count Strzelecki, a Polish Count who provided relief in Mayo during Ireland’s Great Famine (1845-1852) Dr. Kinealy also expresses her opinion on the latest controversy surrounding the plans by British TV station Channel 4 to commission a script from Dublin writer Hugh Travers for a situation comedy series about the Irish Famine!
