Live your life to the fullest Dear Swastika, I’m a - TopicsExpress

Live your life to the fullest Dear Swastika, I’m a 15-year-old girl and an SLC candidate now. I have a crush on a national football player who is just 16 now. We have never faced each other. I know that it’s like building a castle in the air, but I can’t control my feelings, and I want to be in relationship with him. I don’t know anything else but it’s more than a crush for me. It’s the first time ever that I’m feeling this strongly for someone. What should I do? Please help me. - Lonely princess Oh ho…I’m having such a hard time guessing who that guy could be (wink…wink). If I were you, I would fill my room with his posters, put his picture on my Facebook cover page, “Like” his fan page, do a Google search on him and find out everything about him. I know what’s going on your head by how you put “SLC” right on the first line of your question. You probably think that you should put aside and suppress your crush because you have an important examination coming up. But trust me you spend more time and energy by “trying NOT to think about him” than you would if you just allowed yourself to think about him and find creative ways to express your feelings towards him. There’s nothing wrong in trying to talk to him, meeting him and finding out who this person really is. Once I really had a crush on this super popular guy on campus but then one day he came to college in his pointed dingo boots and I was so done with him. There’s a chance that once you meet him, you may really admire him and like him but there’s also a chance that something about him will just turn you off. The only way to find out is to dive into the water. Live your life 100 per cent – whether it is your SLC or chasing your crush – give it all you’ve got. Dear Swastika, My wardrobe is getting more compact day by day but I don’t like any of the clothes I possess. Also, I have gained a lot of weight and most of my old clothes, though in good condition, don’t fit. I have now become a shopaholic and have been spending a lot on clothes. What should I do to get out of this addiction? - Raveena I just came back from a seven-day trek around Lalitpur. It is so beautiful out there. What amazed me was that every time we met someone we knew, they quickly invited us to stay over or have some food. Whenever we did, they served the simplest meal in their modest looking homes with such joy and humility. I immediately compared that with our lives here in the city – nothing is good enough for us. We don’t invite people at our homes because we fear it isn’t big enough. We don’t fall in love because we think we’re not beautiful enough. We don’t celebrate life because we think we don’t have enough. Thus, we just want more and more of everything. Raveena, may be it would help to stop focusing on yourself for a while and travel, see the rest of the country and rejoice in the simple beauty of life. Give your old clothes away – may be there’s nothing wrong in buying more – may be it just means that you have more to give away. Come out of your world and, with eyes and heart wide open, explore the world and give a hug to everyone who says, “I have enough.” Dear Swastika, I’m in relationship with a classmate, who hails from Tarai. I belong to a conservative Newar family, a true Kathmanduite. My father has already passed away, and since my mother is more like a friend to me, I tried telling this to her. It was a bad decision, because my mom became so angry. I understand that I’m only 17 and am not yet wise enough to take a decision so big. But as of now, I can’t think of anything else than spending my life with him. I love him so much, and so does he. However, he recently told me that his parents expect a dowry of at least Rs 2.5 million from his would-be bride. I haven’t been able to figure out why he told me this. I’m a little doubtful about his intentions, but I still feel he loves me as genuinely as I do. Not all madhesis torture their daughter-in-law or wife in the name of dowry, do they? -Neera
