Liverpool FC join hands with DSK Shivajians FC to launch their International Football Academy in Pune, India The academy is being launched with an aim to turn it into a world-class academy which would also feature world-class facilities and infrastructure like full-size pitches, practice grounds, dressing rooms, medical units, classrooms, lecture halls, gymnasium, canteen, etc. in a residential complex built specially for the purpose. The academy is scheduled to start working from the first week of January, 2014. It will also be serviced by DSK Shivajians for the young Indian players as a market-leading development center. The programme will provide the promising young players and footballers, especially upto the age of 18 with great opportunity in professional academic environment to develop and improve their gameplay. Frank McParland, Academy Director of LFC said, At the Academy in Liverpool we aim to develop outstanding players and good human beings. The results speak for themselves as just last season seven Academy players made their first team debuts. Education and community work is key to the development of our young players and we look forward to taking our knowledge and experience to India, The work on the Indian project will be controlled by coaches officially assigned by LFC. Their job will also be to pass the technical expertise to the players and coaches of the academy from the club. The club also has plans to introduce full-time coaches from LFC who would also be assigned to keep a close watch on each of the age groups in the academy. Chief Commercial Officer of LFC, Billy Hogan said, This is the first time an English top-flight club has partnered with an Indian team to help them bring through local talent. Millions of our LFC family are based in India so we are very excited to be working with DSK Shivajians and being part of the games development in the country,” The executive Director of DSK Group and the master-mind of this strategic partnership, Shirish Kulkarni also spoke about it, This is a strategic move for us at DSK Shivajians FC and as well as for aspiring young footballers who will get the opportunity to train and get direct supervision from one of the worlds most reputed football clubs, Liverpool FC. We are delighted with this partnership and believe that this will go a long way in inspiring and honing skills of both current players and aspirants and give them an opportunity to actualize their potential. I am a footballer at heart and Liverpool has always been my favorite club. I have been playing from a young age with DSK Shivajians and a dream team till now was just that… a dream. However, it is today our privilege to be in a position where we can, not just help bring in a world-class pool of talent, infrastructure and expertise to Indian grounds but also to do it with a club that has my loyalties. I am very confident that this academy will go a long way in placing India strongly on the national and international map of professional football. he added. DSK Supinfocom International, situated in Loni will serve as the working center for the facilities for DSK Shivajians. The facility will also help LFC to properly run it’s soccer-school programme, a world-renowned programme to give opportunities to the youngsters to learn the game the same way as that of LFC greats, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.
