Liverpool are facing a battle to retain the services of another of their most coveted players after Daniel Agger emerged as a key transfer target for Barcelona. The La Liga champions are desperate to sign a top class centre back and had an offer rejected for David Luiz, the Chelsea defender, yesterday. That move came only after their overtures for Agger were rebuffed by Liverpool towards the end of last week with Barcelona pursuing both players on the basis that they will ultimately sign only one. Anfield officials claim that they are yet to receive a bid from Barcelona for Agger, but sources at the Spanish club insist that an offer of £17 million had been lodged, which was subsequently rejected.
