Liverpool are set to make a final move for Schalke’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos before the transfer window closes, according to reports from the Daily Star. The Reds have been linked with the Greek ace for the majority of the summer, but have been deterred from making an offer due to his injury woes and the Bundesliga outfit’s £13m valuation. However, the 21-year-old – who recently returned to full training – is back on the club’s radar, with reports suggesting that Schalke are now willing to do business. Sources close to the player himself have indicated that he is looking to make the move to Anfield, which has caused the Gelsenkirchen-based giants to reconsider their stance. Liverpool are now set to make another swoop, and are hopeful that an offer below the original asking price will be enough to secure Papadopoulos’ signature. Brendan Rodgers is desperate to draft in defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes, with Jamie Carragher’s retirement at the end of the 2012/13 campaign having left him short of options. Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori is also thought to be on the Northern Irishman’s radar, but he is more attracted to Papadopoulos who has gained a reputation as a defensive leader despite his relatively youthful age.
