Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has issued a hands-off warning - TopicsExpress

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has issued a hands-off warning to England boss Roy Hodgson regarding his striker Daniel Sturridge. The forward hasn’t appeared for his club since returning home injured from the last international break, when Rodgers blasted England’s treatment of him. And now, the Anfield boss has informed the FA that even if Sturridge is able to play some part in Liverpool’s game against West Brom on Saturday, he doesn’t believe he will fit enough to join up with the national team for the Euro 2016 qualifiers next week, report the BBC. “If we’re talking about players being picked for international duty then they need to be fit,” he said. “Daniel certainly won’t be fit. “He won’t be fit to play for England whether he’s available for the weekend or not.” The 25-year-old had a sensational season for the Reds last year, and began the current campaign strongly, so Rodgers is right to be bemoaning his absence, and is unsurprisingly cautious to return him to Hodgson. Sturridge was touted to play a part in last Saturday’s Merseyside derby, but was unable to make the squad, and he has now been left out of Liverpool’s trip to Basel in the Champions League tonight. But his manager is hopeful he can be involved at the weekend. “We’re hoping he can develop over the next 48 hours to be in a position to train with the team on Thursday and maybe be available for the squad on Saturday,” he added. If only the injury was to his arms, rather than his thigh... #lfc #thepremiership2 #epl #bpl cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/67/590x/daniel-sturridge-444984.jpg
