Matic joined Chelsea in 2009 but couldnt force his way into the first-team and eventually joined Benfica as part of the deal that saw David Luiz head in the opposite direction in 2011. Since then the 25-year-old has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge thanks to some fine performances in Portugal. Chelsea were reportedly attempting to land Matic in the summer transfer window but were put off by his price-tag. Should Chelsea make another move in January, they may face competition from the likes of Liverpool, who according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, are keen on taking the rangy midfielder to Anfield. However speaking to Inside Futbol the ex-Chelsea ace said he was happy to stay with Benfica this season, but would certainly be tempted if the Blues came calling. When asked about the Liverpool link, he said: To be honest I want to stay in Lisbon for another year. But of course, if someone like Jose Mourinho wants to bring me back to London, that would be a chance to prove that I can play in the Premier League.”
