Living An Epic Adventure - As some of you know, I am in the process of writing a book on network marketing and from time to time I will post something here to gather outside perspective. Yesterday I put up a small post while flying back to Destin from Miami about culture and my observation of how different corporate cultures collide and how hypocritical one cultic can be towards another. A couple of you added some additional insight into my observations, and I want to thank you for that. As a matter of fact the additional info from leaders in the field has led to a full blown editorial I am writing. But those comments also brought up and additional insights as I thought back to what I had observed over my weekend. Yesterday I clarified that corporate cultures are different, and that we tend to take our personal bigoted, judgmental world views and lets them run wild when we feel we are safe not to be attacked for these views. A couple of the comments brought up the fact, that some corporate cultures are made up primarily of one race of people, and how this race will act classy, while the in another corporate culture they will act trashy. I pondered that line of thinking and have come to the conclusion that I agree in the observation. But... ...it does bring up some additional thoughts and I would like your input. I have met some classy people on the surface, and when you get to know them, you find out they have some really trashy ethics. While at the same time I have met some really trashy people, who when you get to know them just didnt have much Home Training (thank you Robyn Mosley-Mancell for this new phrase.) Using a personal example; Brandon Ivey and I have been strategic business associates for years, and one thing I have observed from Brandon is how he mentors his people. I have seen him take some pretty trashy people and mentor them into great leaders. While at the same time I have seen how some of his team pretend to be classy, then leave and act trashy. So after all this rambling here are the questions I would like input on... 1. No matter what the culture (personal or corporate) would it be accurate to say, we have posers who will act classy when inside they have never changed they values and ethics and are out to screw people for their own gain? This next question might be a little tougher, and I am still grappling with it myself. 2. As a community (network Marketing) where we have different ethic cultures, making up our corporate cultures, which in turn are made up of individual families (teams). Then shouldnt we be willing when we see issues where Home Training lacking that we as leaders seek out the family matriarch or patriarch and have a sit-down to see how we can help instead of exacerbating the situation and making it worse? I believe we are just one BIG dysfunctional family in network marketing. But its through this disfunction that we can learn, grow and become stronger. But to do that we must be willing to learn from each other, and at times hold each other accountable for our actions when we find that some in our family have hidden agendas. And this goes from the founders down to the newest independent distributor. I am reminded of a small but valuable command... Protect This Family As They Have Protected Me, So They Can Go On To Become All They Can Be. - Optimus Prime
