Living In the Word Tuesday Oct. 8, 2013 Prayer and Petition Drawing near to God so that we can experience true love requires of us a sincere heart, our complete devotion to the Holy Spirit within our self so that we can open our self in complete trust and follow Christ with the full assurance that faith brings. “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with full assurance that faith brings…” He 10:22 In prayer we can do this. With Praise – we should come to Him in his sanctuary, within the vault of his power. “Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.” Ps 150:1 With Thanksgiving – Thanksgiving is the antidote to worry and anxiety. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Php 4:6 With Confession – Fess up with honesty. Humble yourself before him. He wants to hear from your lips what he has seen. “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight;…” Ps 51:3-4 With Intercession – Speak to Him on behalf of others. Loving your neighbor also requires your prayers. Hear the words of Jesus: “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” Jn 17:9 With Petition – Jesus let us know that it is received well by our Father in heaven for us to ask for our self. Again, words directly from Christ: “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will’” Mt 26:39
