Living in Huanchaco, we frequently see the beach with lots of trash as shown in this photo. It is not as simple as it sounds to stop this awful pollution. There is a crew of nice municipal workers that struggles to pick up the trash every day. But it comes in on every tide. Trash is dumped off bluffs in Buenos Aires a few miles to the south of here, a suburb of Trujillo (a recent news article showed a dump truck backed up to the bluff and dumping). Trujillos dumps are filled to overflowing. Officials are corrupt and look the other way to trash dumping. Recently a bloated animal (dog or goat) floated into the main beach amongst the sunbathers. A dead seal or sea lion is common and to be expected... but??? Unfortunately, there just is no easy solution. It would have to come from the top down, and as we know, politicians are among the most dishonest neighbors we have.
