Living life is not “earning a living” or “making a living.” People who live to make a living only work to live; they do not live life. They fill time with their work and not their time with work (in which case work becomes play). Life for them is the prize to be deserved, bestowed, possessed, or won, but not a process to be lived and enjoyed. For them, contradictorily, life becomes a means to life. If life is a means to life, then its aim is to end itself so as to reach the end that is life. All that is consequential to their life becomes part of this life that is a means to life. In order to be relieved from the stress of the perpetual vicious circle of this inherent contradiction, they seek diversion into the inconsequential — entertainment, amusement, comic relief, recreation, and relaxation. This is the tragic way of living and form of life to which the great majority of people are condition to condemn themselves. There is another entirely different way of living life but people must first realize the utter futility and meaninglessness of life lived as making a living and pursuit of externally defined happiness which is to prove that I am somebody.
