Liz H. from MI- Hi Ive recently found this page, and thought it may help on my long road ahead! Tomorrow will be my six months clean off heroin!! I had an eight year battle with opiates, heroin the past five. I completely turned my life into a living hell, lost everything I ever owned, lost every person i every knew, lost myself!! throughout my addiction i have been in over ten rehabs, twenty detox centers, long term and short term, i tried everything!!! Ive had short periods of clean time, but never could fully kick my habit. I was committing crimes to support my addiction, and was on the run from the police for over a year. This past may, i was pulled over in a car and ended up going to jail for my warrants. I swear the lord did that as a blessing in disguise, although i hate jail, and no one wants to be there, it saved my life!! I did 45 days in the county, and Im now on felony probation for five years. During my time in jail i did alot of thinking, alot of soul searching. I had found myself again, i began to realize the life i had been living as an addict would either kill me, or keep me in an 8 by 10 cell for the rest of my life. At the moment i made the decision too NEVER use again.!! Im currently doing my probation, actively participating in my recovery, going to meetings, and enjoying my new life!! I could never put into words how truly bad my life as an addict had become, but i can only describe it as worse than hell, it was sad, hard, depressing, disgusting, embarrassing, traumatizing, and very lonely! Please if your reading this and feel your the only one, YOUR NOT ALONE!! I hope by telling my story i can reach someone who its still suffering, and be there to help in any way possible!!
