Ljubljana : ultimate testing of the worlds courses A total of 6000 riders have registered for three days of cycling in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana. 420 riders have pre-registered for the time trial in and around BTC City, the commercial center of Ljubljana for a 18.6km long, flat and windy course on a back and forth loop. Riders from 26 different nationalities will attend the race against the clock : Slovenia, Austria, Australia, Holland, Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Finland, Belarus, Croatie, France, Ethiopia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Serbia, Latvia, Norway, Ireland, Costa Rica, Ukraine, Greece and Taipei. On Saturday, there a non-competitive family ride of 25km. The main event of the weekend will take place on Sunday. Maraton Franja was first organized in 1982 and has a long tradition of a high level cycling event for both riders who wish to race and cyclists who wish to go for a fun ride. Men below 60 and women below 50 get the 157km course as a qualifier for Worlds. The main difficulties are a 4.5km climb between km 25 and 30 and a 7km climb between km 80 and 90. There’s an interval of 3 minutes between each start group, combining two or more age groups, but results will all be seperated. The 97km course counts as qualifier distance for the older age groups and doesn’t have the 7km climb in the course. The final 60km are for both courses downhill or flat. Ljubljana is also organizer of the World Championships end of August on the same courses.
