Lk 5:1 -11; 1 Cor 3:18-23 Vs 1 ‘While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God……’ To those who had chosen the wisdom of God pressed on, opened their hearts to the voice of God, listened to Jesus (the Word of God), Emmanuel! This is what St. Paul invited the believers in Corinth to (1 Cor 3:18-23) – “if anyone among you considers himself wise in this age, let him become a fool, so as to become wise.” Their docility to the Spirit of God and His invitation attracted God’s touch, power and miraculous results. St. Peter and his colleagues abandoned their expertise and followed the wise counsel of the Saviour (Master of all creation as the Psalmist says – to the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it) and consequently caught a great number of fish…Praise the Lord. How often do I trust my senses, wisdom, abilities against what the Spirit is telling me? How docile am I to the promptings of the Spirit? How much do I TRUST God especially when things are fine/difficult? I sense Jesus called Peter and his companion not because they were eloquent, wise, educated, etc but they were obedient, poor in the spirit, available to be used. They deliberately chose to put aside their fishing experiences and tapped into God’s divine wisdom and experience!!!!!!! Lord help me never to choose my own or other people’s wisdom but that which comes from you alone. Give me your Spirit’s discernment of spirits and counsel. Come Holy Spirit.
