Jonathan Campaign Rally Disrupted In Ondo, Gun Shots Indiscriminately And Over Ten Persons Were Injured A rally by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State was disrupted by armed policemen on Friday, with not less than 10 persons sustaining varying degrees of injuries. The rally which held at Owo, was organised by the old PDP faction in the northern senatorial district of the state to drum up support for President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates of the party. Those injured, who were largely women, were said to be running away from the policemen who were shooting indiscriminately into the air at the Oke Mapo hall in Owo. One of the conveners, Mr. Femi Adekanmbi, alleged that he was placed on house arrest by the security agents. Another member of the faction and a senatorial candidate, Dr. Olu Agunloye, also told journalists that the rally was organised to restore the confidence of the people in the party since several leaders of the party defected to the opposition party. He accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko for orchestrating the disruption of the rally, adding that the posture of the governor had resulted in the defections of prominent members of the party. He said, “Our intention was to canvass for votes for our party’s presidential candidate, Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates of our party since most of the leaders in the party from our areas have been defecting to the opposition. We the authentic candidates, who have PDP membership cards met and resolved to hold a rally in Owo. “We mobilised members from the six local governments and they arrived the venue around 10 a.m but about 140 police and 25 soldiers dispatched to stop the rally manned all the entrances to the ancient town and also at the venue. Immediately they discovered that we are about to start the rally, they started shooting sporadically to disperse the crowd. In that process 10 people were injured and they are presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.” But the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mimiko, Eni Akinsola, denied that his principal was responsible for the disruption of the rally. He said, “Governor Mimiko cannot be involved in the disruption of a rally held in support of President Goodluck Jonathan.”
