Local Authors to speak at the Chelmsford Library today, Saturday, May 31st, at 2:00 PM. Enjoy light refreshments and purchase signed copies of books. Authors will present brief descriptions of their books will be available at the end of the program to sign copies of their books if youd like to purchase them. Participating authors include: Elena BowmanElena Bowman is an author who writes in several genres including: science fiction, mystery romance novels that have a touch of the paranormal running through them. Elena started writing fiction seriously during her lunch hours at work, but one day after a real rough morning, she lit a cigarette and watched the curling smoke rise toward the corner of the office. As it disappeared into a crack in the wall she wondered where the smoke was going. Needless to say, her imagination took hold and before she knew it she was writing the first chapter to her science fiction/mystery/romance novel, Sarahs Landing-I-Contact. She replaced the smoke with a human being -- her lead character -- which led to the birth of four complete novels in the Sarahs Landing Series. Elena is an honors graduate of Fitchburg University and has earned a BS Degree in Engineering and Management. She has held the offices of State President, Treasurer, and Letters Chairperson of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National League of American PenWomen and is currently Past-President of the Merrimack Valley Branch. Her credits include: By-line Magazine, regional newspapers, organizational newsletters and has co-written and co-produced a Musical Workshop Production. A software engineer turned author, she now writes full-time at her home in Chelmsford. She quickly realized that living with a chronic illness was so insane that she would go insane if she didnt learn to laugh at it! Since this realization she has created a humorous yet inspiring blog on yvonnedesousa and has had her work published in the anthologies Chicken Soup for the Soul: Finding My Faith and Something on Our Minds, Volumes 1 and 2. Her childrens Christian play, The Best Birthday Ever has been performed in over four countries and is available on dramatix.org Her essays have also been published in CapeWomenOnline, the Provincetown Banner and in the Cape Cod Times. MS Madness! A Giggle More, Cry Less Story of Multiple Sclerosis is her first book. Come hear her share how laughter can be a valid coping mechanism for whatever ails you! Mary GuziejkaMary Guziejka chronicles her career as a music teacher in her memoir, Just the Right Note, Mary graduated from Lowells State Teachers College in 1952, worked five years in Bedford teaching Music and English. During the years, 1958 and 1959, she taught in West Chelmsford at the QUESSY SCHOOL She also taught in Nashua NH, Danvers and Andover. She later studied at the University of London, England. After applying to work for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, she ended up working abroad for military families in Okinawa, Japan, Izmir, Turkey, La Maddalena, Italy which is a small island where they had atomic submarine repair bases, and then ended her fifty year teaching career in England where she taught for six years before retiring in 2000. Mary says she felt the greatest need, desire, to write her book to show people how important the ARTS truly are. Connie Johnson Hambley grew up on a small dairy farm just north of New York City. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1965, an arsonist burned her family’s barn to the ground. From that experience grew the story that became The Charity.Hambley writes about strong women from their perspective in situations that demand the most from them. No special powers, no gadgets, no super human abilities. Just a woman caught up or embroiled in something that she has to get out of, hopefully alive. Every bit of personal experience is used by Hambley to create a story that is as believable as it is suspenseful. Using her law and investment background in ways unique, creative, but not altogether logical, she has enjoyed robust professional pursuits which include writing for Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Massachusetts High Tech, and Nature Biotechnology. Proving that truth can be stranger than fiction, her experience at a major bank in Boston introduced her to the clever schemes people dream up to launder money.Hambley writes page-turners and The Charity is the first in a series. Since then, he has worked as an engineer in the electronics industry. A resident of Chelmsford since 1988, he began the Sci-Fi trilogy A Lowell Story out of a growing fascination with the history of the Merrimack Valley region. Jill KellerJill Lenett Keller is an Emmy award winning, internationally famous comedienne who recently…oh wait, that’s Ellen DeGeneres. Jill is actually a community college English professor and a mom of two wonderful girls. She is the 2011 winner of the David Sedaris Local Writers Contest and her work has been published in the Lowell Sun, the National Teaching and Learning Forum, the Community College Journal of Research and Practice, and Oxford University’s journal Essays in Criticism. She resides with her daughters in Chelmsford and tries not to embarrass them too much in public. Peggy RambachPeggy Rambach was twice awarded the Massachusetts Individual Artist Grant, was a fellow at the MacDowell and Yaddo artist colonies, and is the recipient of grants and awards for teaching in Corrections, Health Care, Medical Humanities and in social service centers and halfway houses. She has taught in Chatham University and the University of New Hampshire’s graduate programs in creative writing and currently teaches creative writing at South Bay House of Correction. Ms. Rambach lives in northeastern Massachusetts. peggyrambach Vlad VVlad Vaslyn (AKA Vlad V). is the author of Brachmans Underworld, Yorick and The Button, and he has appeared at Queen City Kamikaze (panelist), Cool Roots (performer), Rooted (performer), New England Authors Expo, Indie Author News, Open Book Society, Yahoo! Shine, Strange Amusements, Digital Journal and at bookstores and libraries all across New England. His background as a newspaper correspondent and freelance writer has earned him dozens of publishing credits for local news articles, and hes an active member of the New England Horror Writers as well.
