Local Church Comforts Patients at Northside Hospital-Cherokee ‘One Stitch at a Time’ Members of Celebration of Grace Lutheran Church in Canton recently presented 16 handmade prayer shawls to Northside Hospital-Cherokee, to be distributed to patients throughout the hospital. They also donated 69 handmade caps for the babies in the hospital’s Women’s Center. The items were delivered to the hospital on Sunday, Sept. 8, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Evangelical Church in America (ELCA) and its dedication to serving the community. “We are grateful to the volunteers at Celebration of Grace Lutheran Church for being so generous with their time and resources, and for thinking of our patients,” said Michael Johnson, CFO, Northside Hospital-Cherokee, who joined Rev. C.R. Hill, hospital chaplain, and Christa Parham, Patient Relations, in accepting the shawls and caps on Sept. 8. For several years, the prayer shawl ministry at Celebration of Grace Lutheran has been making shawls and caps for those in the community, who need the comfort of knowing people care about them in their time of need. The items not provide warmth, but also offer the feeling of healing prayers. “We are pleased to have this special opportunity on our church’s 25th anniversary, to give comfort to the community through the caregivers at Northside Hospital-Cherokee,” said Terry Morrison, prayer shawl ministry, Celebration of Grace Lutheran Church.
